Stop Dieting and Get Thinner!

This is a picture of me today. No make up, no special lighting, just me, at home, in my dressing room. I am 43 years old, I have had a baby, who is now 17 months old. I have not dieted for 20 years and apart from putting on a stone while I was pregnant with my son Phoenix, my weight has not really changed in 20 years. I have always weighed between 6 stone 9 and 6 stone 12, I know that seems very light but I am only 4ft 11 inches tall!

I don't have a personal trainer or a chef. I don't live on rabbit food and at the moment I don't go to the gym and I haven't since before I gave birth to Phoenix, as like most parents, I really don't have the time! I do however, eat what I want, when I want and I walk a lot. In-spite of actually having body dis-morphia, I do not stress about food. I do not have an eating disorder but I do like to look the best I can.

You may look at me and think, 'Well she is one of the lucky ones, who is naturally slim'. You are wrong. Up until being 24 years old I was two stone heavier and bulimic. Even when I worked as a dancer in the show cats, from age 19 to 21 years old, I was comically known as 'big jugs' because of my weight!

I hated myself, I was mentally ill with dieting and I was at the end of my tether emotionally with it all, I hated myself and my life of constant dieting....

Then I realised the secret to eating and everything changed for me overnight. I stopped dieting, overcame bulimia, lost 2 stone and I have never looked back. My secrets, I will share with you over the next few weeks in my stop dieting blogisode.

The biggest secret of all is that DIETS DO NOT WORK! The reason I'm doing this blog series is mainly to save our children. Each and everyone of our babies have an in built hunger monitor, it tells them when they are hungry and so they cry for food and it tells them when they are full, so they stop eating. If we, their parents over ride this natural alarm by over or under feeding our children, we will eventually sentence them to a life time of dieting when they are older.

I can show you what I have learned and how I have managed to overcome a lifetime of watching my weight and hopefully it will help you and then you can pass on my secret to your children.

In January 2014 Brits spent over 2.8 billion on losing weight. Let me say that again, we spent over 2.8 billion on something that doesn't work in one month! Americans spend over 60 billion a year to lose weight and yet we are getting fatter and fatter as our bank balances get thinner and thinner! Proof enough I think, that diets are a load of old rubbish.

A staggering, 67% of men and 57% of women in the UK are overweight or obese and almost two thirds of us are on a diet 'most of the time'. Horrifyingly 80% of 10 year old girls have been on a diet and boys are catching up with this trend sadly too.

We have to do something about our growing waistlines for the sake of our health and the NHS - but dieting is not the answer. I firmly believe the answer lies in us and once I have shown you how to tap in to your own natural hunger gauge, you will feel better about yourself and you will lose weight.

It's not about image, it's about health! It's about living freely from dieting! It's about feeling good about yourself whatever your weight. The diet must die. It's time to save your money and get fit by listening to yourself.
